Sound Division at MOBO Nominations 2009
Announcing that the 2009
MOBO Awards were to be
held in Glasgow’s SECC – the first time
out of London – was guaranteed to stir up much
media excitement ahead of the artist nominations
bash, held on Wednesday 26th August at The Crystal
Rooms, Mayfair Hotel, in Central London.
Once again the Sound Division Group were to play
their part in driving the atmosphere on the night,
having been awarded the contract as the preferred
supplier of technical
sound production for the event.
Highlights included live performances from the UK’s
2009 Eurovision Finalist, R&B singing star, Jade
Ewen – nominated for ‘Best British Newcomer’ -
and Bashy, Grime/Hip Hop crossover artist, selected
for ‘Best UK Act’ & ‘Best Album’ – ‘Catch
Me If You Can’.
A QSC 2.5K two way, four box portable sound system
was ground stacked, running through an Allen & Heath
24 channel mixing desk. Shure microphones and IEM
were provided together with two QSC stage monitors,
ensuring a ‘crystal clear’ sound in the
Crystal Rooms, for audience and artists alike.
For Bashy’s performance, a DJ system was also
rigged up on stage, consisting of the industry standard,
Technics SL1210 turntables and Pioneer CDJ1000 CD
decks linked through a Pioneer DJM909 mixer.
To light the stage area, a compact rig consisting
of Source four profiles and spots, kept the artists’ high
energy performance in full view right across the
stage, wherever they chose to strut their stuff!
Head of Production for Sound Division, Will Flowers,
engineered the event and was responsible for ensuring
a smooth running evening. Sound Division MD, David
Graham was particularly pleased, “We are always
delighted to be asked to give technical support to
an important, annual music industry event, as organised
by the MOBO organisation. The nominations night created
a real buzz for the forthcoming awards”.
